Beyond the Backyard

The next step in the JustDuckit journey: traveling to volunteer at animal sanctuaries nationwide, mapping out species care needs, and using Web3, content strategy, and digital advocacy to amplify their stories.

Beyond the Backyard

Three and a half years ago, life looked entirely different. Like most people, I was caught up in the day-to-day grind, looking for something that felt genuinely grounding. When I started caring for ducks, the simple, demanding routine of keeping another living being fed, safe, and thriving gave me a sense of purpose that nothing else had. But it quickly turned into something far bigger than daily chores.

I still remember bringing a young Jasmine to the county fair. People stopped in their tracks. Strangers lit up, crowding around just to get a glimpse of her and say hello. It wasn't the attention that caught me off guard—it was the pure, unfiltered joy she sparked in complete strangers. That was the moment everything clicked: animals have a unique power to connect people, soften the edges of a hard day, and bring out our best instincts.

Living alongside a flock every single day teaches you things no book can. You quickly realize that we aren’t that different from them. We talk, we bicker, we wander, we gather by the water, and we act completely ridiculous sometimes. Caring for these birds gave me an unexpected masterclass in psychology, patience, and connection. It broke down the artificial wall between us and the rest of the living world.

The Scale of the Mission

Over these past few years, we built thriving digital spaces, networked with creators and founders, and figured out how modern attention actually works. But attention without purpose is empty. Too many animal sanctuaries across the country are doing heroic, exhausting work in the shadows—saving lives on shoestring budgets with zero digital visibility.

That is why I’m taking the next step: traveling to animal sanctuaries across the country to volunteer hands-on, starting with avian rescues and keeping an open mind for every species in need.

The goal is twofold:

  1. Get my hands dirty learning specialized care routines from seasoned caregivers.
  2. Apply my background in web development, content strategy, and digital storytelling to shine a spotlight on their work, grow their audience, build custom tools, and connect them with sponsors and donors.

When you bet on yourself and align your skills with something that genuinely matters, everything else falls into place. The road ahead is open, and it's time to build something lasting for the animals and the people who fight for them every day.
